M4-Redevelopment – The Mueller Airport Story

Wednesday September 16
10:30 am to 11:50 am

This session explores the redevelopment of Austin’s Mueller Airport into a New Urbanist, mixed-use neighborhood. Special attention will be paid to:

  • The participation of the community over the past twenty years in establishing a strong consensus and vision for the development
  • The structure of the deal between Catellus and the City, which has allowed for significant community objectives to be achieved, including public open space and affordable housing
  • The design of the community as a demonstration of the City’s commitment to New Urbanist principles of pedestrian and transit-oriented development
  • The achievement of high levels of sustainability in green building, energy conservation, urban run-off and water quality.
